Benefits of Massage

Just like people, dogs can benefit from massage as well. Most of us have experienced the soothing feeling of massage, and It can be a great way to relax and unwind tense and sore muscles. This is also the case for our furry companions.

Massage also offers many other benefits such as increased circulation, drainage of the lymphatic system, removal of lactic acid buildup in muscles; it helps to decrease edema, breaks down scar tissue, loosens knots and muscle spasms, increases range of motion and tones muscles.

Along with the physiological affects, massage also has psychological affects such as relaxation and stress reduction. Massage aids in desensitization to touch aversion and also increases the bond between the dog and its masseur.

Massage can be a great adjunct to many other treatments and physiotherapy. All dogs can benefit from massage including but not limited to:

  • Post-op recovery

  • Canine athletes

  • Dogs with arthritis

  • Puppies

  • Anxious dogs

  • Dogs with chronic painful musculoskeletal conditions
